About Ken
My name is Kenmore Maruta, and I am a a semi-abstract painter whose work is focused vibrant colours and bold textures. I was born in April 2000. I started painting when I was 8 years old.
I love painting because I get to express my joys and sorrows in a language I feel everyone understands..
I create paintings that often explore dark emotions . This inspiration comes from my upbringing in the city of Harare, where I faced struggles, mainly financial harsships. We were not wealthy growing up, but within my paintings, I felt I could not want for more.
I've always been obsessed with vivid forms. My desire is to express my deep sensations and share the truth I witness in my mind every single day.
I love sharing my message too. My greatest dream is to share my emotion with the world, and maybe heal it too along the way..
Influences and Education
My education was mainly through an apprenticeship for about 4 years. From the ages of 12 to 16, I had the honour of learning from the renowned Zimbabwean Painter, Misheck Mashamvu
I learnt vividry from him. I learnt to imagine, and I learnt to be vibrant through his teachings. He was more than a teacher, he was a true mentor and guide in my understanding of form and texture. I am grateful for the lessons I gained with him.
From then on, I went on to work with Village Unhu, a powerful and wonderful gallery where I continue to nurture my talent and work. Every day i am filled with inspiration and desire to share greatness with people. I focus on creating art that relates to the observer, to touch their heart, and let them know, their pain is shared.
I find art to be a healing modality, a method of transmitting eternal knowledge through colours and forms. This is profoundly inspiring to me. I travel into deeper layers of my mind, and find my muse there. I explore dark emotions, I wish to reveal the hidden depths beyond our human experience.
